Location House of Talor

Pastor Arwes is the head priest of the House of Talor, a large cathedral in the heart of the Kander Forest in Gavel.

Arwes and his church are apparently the guiding spiritual force in the region, holding influence among the religious and superstitious in Lexdale and the Dark Forest Village. The religious teachings of the Talor sect are largely unknown, although they are known to involve nine Hells[1] and the divine mandate of the Gavellian monarchy.[2]

Dialogue[]

  • Pastor Arwes: Welcome, weary traveller. To the House of Talor... or what remains of it.
  • Pastor Arwes: This used to be a thriving religious sanctuary, but most think the holy have abandoned us.
  • Pastor Arwes: Very few are left in this church. Times are hard in the forest, especially here in the ruins.
  • Pastor Arwes: And yet, the people of Cinfras don't even as much as bat an eye...

Dialogue[]

First Conversations[]

  • Arwes: "Bonfire festival"... Hm... Maybe I should've come here sooner...
  • Arwes: Oh! Sorry, human! Didn't see you there, I was focused on this newspaper.
  • Arwes: My name is Arwes, I am a priest over at the once-great House of Talor in Gavel.
  • Guard Golem: .̶̺̈.̶̨̚.̸̨̲̉T̵̞̆̑á̷͇̰l̸͔̞͘ŏ̴̺͕̈́r̵̺̋?̶̨̳̀ ̷̦̔͘ͅŔ̸̭e̶͇̝͂͘ḿ̷͈̟͘ḛ̶̛̉m̶̍͘͜b̴̰̀̀ę̵̠̓͝r̴̭̅.̶͇̩̇̐.̸̬͒.̵̙̠͐̒
  • Arwes: Oh, don't mind the Golem. That's just my good old friend Golie. He talks, sometimes.
  • Arwes: Anyway, was there something you wished to ask me about??

Following Conversations[]

  • Arwes: Got anything to ask?
    • [1] What brings you here?
      • Arwes: Well, watching your home die around you takes a toll on a person, you know?
      • Arwes: Pastor Nitram let me and Golie here take a break from our service at the House of Talor to go to Wynn for a bit, just to see a more hopeful side of the world.
      • Arwes: Unfortunately, Detlas doesn't feel too different from home right now, what with all the spooky decorations. And then you've also got that Corruption situation going on...
      • Arwes: Maybe I should've just gone to that "Corkus" place instead... Didn't sound like there was any sort of apocalypse over there...
    • [2] May I speak to Golie?
      • Arwes: Oh, of course you can! Doubt you'll be able to understand him, though. He speaks in some strange muffled tongue that I couldn't possibly decipher.
      • Golie: T̵͚͊ȃ̵̹l̸̯͗õ̷̭̜̅r̴͍͐͗.̷͈̞͠.̴̢͛̆.̷̼̭͗͑ ̴̢̄͌T̷͋ͅr̷̨̻͛y̷̹̹͌͝ ̴̲̓t̷̥̫͐o̴̦͛̐ ̸͔̦̅̍t̴͈̫̓h̵̰̕ì̶̧̝n̵̡͙̾k̵̮͐.̴̯͛.̷̬͒͘.̶̛̞̾ ̴̼̚ͅR̵̤̲̾̄e̴̙̓̀ḿ̶͕̪́e̴̖͚̓̇m̶̨̤͒b̶̻͈̒̓e̶̖̠̎͊r̶̫͆̐.̸̹̂.̸̳̬̊̆.̴̧̖͠

      • Arwes: Oh, this is just a waste of time. Maybe one day we'll be able to understand him. But not now.
    • [3] Any stories to tell?
      • Arwes: Sure I do! In fact, I have a perfect one for this spooky festival! A true spooky story!
      • Arwes: Few years ago, I knew a guy named Talos. He was a good, strong, hard-working Lexdale citizen who would always help out at the House of Talor.
      • Arwes: One day, I had to go to Olux to collect some supplies for the House - just some useful medicinal herbs from the area that would help us with our healings.
      • Arwes: As I am an old man, I asked that Talos come with me to help transport the supplies. He gladly agreed, and so we set off.
      • Arwes: When we arrived near Olux, we set up a camp, as the sun was setting and we needed a place to stay.
      • Arwes: It was in the dead of the night when it happened. All I really remember is hearing movement outside my tent, three men, it would seem, and when I woke up the next morning, Talos was missing.
      • Arwes: Didn't leave a note or anything, just. Gone without a trace.
      • Arwes: Since I now feared for my life, and since I no longer had Talos to carry my supplies with me, I had no choice but to spend what few emeralds I had on a Guard Golem from the local factory.
      • Arwes: I named him Golie, and he has been a good friend to me ever since. But I wonder about Talos sometimes. Did he go off with those men? Did they kidnap him? Is he okay?
      • Arwes: I guess I'll never know, but the thought of such a kind young man being whisked away forever like that is an upsetting one.
    • [4] Know anything about demons?
      • Arwes: What an odd question to ask me out of the blue... Do you assume I know about demons because I'm a holy man?
      • Arwes: Well, lucky for you, I study demons, so I know a lot about them. There is a lot to go over, though, so I'll just throw you some basic facts.
      • Arwes: Demonologists are not sure of their origin, but there are two demons worshipped by the Doguns in the Molten Heights, which has lead to Dwarves calling them "Demons" historically, though this is untrue.
      • Arwes: One of the demons worshipped is Garaheth, who some Doguns believe is their creator. As for the other...
      • Arwes: His name is on the tip of my tongue... Something...that...starts with an N? N...Na... Oh, it doesn't matter.
      • Arwes: All you need to know is: Stay away from demons. The limits of their power are not yet known. Not worth the risks that come from trying to discover them.
    • [5] Just saying hello!
      • Arwes: See you around!

Trivia[]

  • Pastor Arwes' name is a reference to Dr. Seward, a character in Bram Stoker's 1897 novel Dracula.
  • Pastor Arwes originally appeared as simply Arwes in the level 72 Quest Eye of the Storm, before it was removed in the 1.20 Gavel Reborn update. In the quest, Arwes tells the player about the Order of the Abyss, a cult dedicated to bringing back the Demon Prince Naragath, before he hears his friend Talos in trouble. After Talos is rescued, he then sends the player to Ceyquin.
